Bob Howard Chevrolet welcomes you to discover why your Chevrolet battery light is active.
If the car battery indicator comes on just when you start your car, that’s a normal system test. If it stays on while you are driving, then there’s probably something that needs to be repaired. If you are having issues with the battery, you may notice that your headlights are getting dim, the radio might not power on, and your windows might be moving slowly. If you notice any of these things happening, you really need to get to your destination or bring it to us immediately because your vehicle is in imminent risk of shutting down. If neither is an option, find a safe place to stop and park.
Like all things car-related, how long you can drive with the car battery light turned on depends on a lot of factors. If the light just turned on, you can do things like turning off all accessories such as the radio or air conditioning and removing any devices that may be connected to USB ports. Doing this will boost the leftover battery life, but you should still attempt to get here or go right back home. Keep in mind you should NOT turn off the engine because a dying battery won’t have the power to restart.
There are many reasons why the car battery light might come on, but generally, the reasons are:
A vehicle works best when it has a charged battery. Any one of the problems listed above will make it hard for your battery to get charged. If it’s not fixed immediately, it will probably drain all of the power from your car battery and leave you stranded.
If there is a safe place to pull over, at the very least, you can open the hood and examine your car battery for a loose cable or corrosion on the battery. Besides those quick checks, the best way to fix the battery light is to bring it here. Our skilled technicians have the skills and tools to determine the issue. They will test everything from checking out your alternator to the health of your battery and then recommend the correct course of action to get your car repaired.
