Buy a 2026 now, or wait for the 2027?

Wait for the 2027 if your heaviest trailers are near the top of the current diesel's range, or if you want electric power steering and the new eBoost brakes for long downhill grades under load. Buy a 2026 now if the truck has to start earning this season. From the outside the two look much alike, since Chevrolet says the 2027's exterior "may look familiar", and the 2026's Duramax 6.6L is a proven engine with 36,000 lb of max available towing.

The 2027 is mostly a powertrain and chassis year. Chevrolet's own FAQ says the exterior "may look familiar" while the changes sit underneath: an all-new Duramax 8.3L Turbo-Diesel V8, an enhanced 6.6L gas V8, electric power steering and eBoost braking. The six models stay the same, from WT to High Country.

A 2026 makes sense if

You need a truck working before year end, your trailers sit comfortably inside today's ratings, or you'd rather buy a proven powertrain than a first-year engine.

Waiting makes sense if

You tow at the limit, want the extra diesel torque for grades, or can live without a new truck until Chevrolet publishes 2027 pricing and order dates.

2026 vs. 2027 Silverado HD, by the numbers

These are Chevrolet's published figures for each model year. Towing and payload are "max available" ratings, which apply only to specific configurations, so always check the rating on the exact truck you're looking at.

As of October 2026. Sources: Chevrolet's 2027 Silverado HD and 2026 Silverado HD pages. 2027 figures are for preproduction trucks and may change before production. Note one quirk: the enhanced 2027 gas V8 is rated 80 lb lower for max towing than the 2026, even though it makes more power.

An all-new diesel and an enhanced gas V8

Each 2027 engine makes more horsepower and torque than the one it replaces, and the two are built in different plants. The diesel is the headline, but the gas V8 still matters to anyone whose trailers stay under about 19,000 lb, because it costs nothing in diesel exhaust fluid and suits short-haul work around the metro.

The diesel's top towing rating moves from 36,000 to 38,000 lb.

The bigger gain is torque, 1,230 lb-ft against 975, for contractors around Midwest City and ranches north of Edmond.

Steering and brakes built for towing

These are the changes you'll feel first, especially pulling a heavy trailer through a busy lot or down a long hill.

  • Electric power steering. Chevrolet says it runs without hydraulic noise, reduces steering kickback off-road and is designed for reduced maintenance.
  • eBoost braking. It's designed for smoother, more predictable stopping under load, on long downhill grades and through repeated stops.
  • Tow/Haul Mode. It increases steering damping for steadier trailer control.
  • Up to 14 camera views. They cover hitching, lane changes, reversing and watching the trailer, plus an available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert.

Which HD fits the job

Chevrolet hasn't yet broken out 2027 ratings by 2500 HD and 3500 HD, or by cab and bed, so use this as a starting point and check the exact truck's rating before you buy. For towing basics on the half-ton, see our Silverado 1500 towing capacity guide, and if you're still deciding between sizes, our Colorado vs. Silverado 1500 comparison.

Your work What matters most Where to start
Trailers over 19,000 lb The gas V8 tops out at 19,000 lb max available, so heavier loads need the diesel Duramax diesel. Compare 2500 HD and 3500 HD ratings once Chevrolet publishes them
Equipment hauling around the metro Repeated stops, tight job sites and short runs Either engine. Electric steering helps in tight spots, and eBoost helps with stop-and-go towing
Campers and weekend towing Comfort, cameras and the trailer's real weight Gas V8 if the trailer sits well under its rating, LT or LTZ for comfort
Ranch and lease roads Ground clearance and traction Trail Boss, now offered on Custom, or ZR2 with its new Terrain Mode
Fleet and upfit work Price, durability and a body you can build on WT, the base work truck

2026 Silverado 2500 HD vs. 3500 HD

If you're buying a 2026 now, the choice between the 2500 HD and the 3500 HD comes down to cab choice, rear wheels and how much you tow.

2026 model Cab and bed Rear wheels Towing headline
Silverado 2500 HD Regular Cab, Double Cab or Crew Cab, including a Crew Cab with Standard or Long Bed Single rear wheel Up to 22,070 lb with a Crew Cab, which Chevrolet calls segment-leading
Silverado 3500 HD Crew Cab with Standard or Long Bed Single (SRW) or dual (DRW) Every dually with the Duramax 6.6L can pull over 30,000 lb, up to the HD's 36,000 lb top rating

In short, a 2500 HD covers most pickup-bed and bumper-pull work, with more cab choices. Heavy goosenecks and fifth-wheels near the top of the range point to a 3500 HD dually.

Buying an HD for work

If the truck is a tool for your business in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore or Midwest City, settle the financing before the truck arrives, so a 2026 deal or a 2027 order can move as soon as you're ready.

Our guide to Chevrolet financing in OKC covers how the application works. If a promotional rate is part of your plan, read how Chevy 0% APR offers work before you compare it with a cash incentive.

Before you buy a 2026 or reserve a 2027

  • Weigh your heaviest trailer, loaded, and compare it with the exact truck's rating.
  • Decide between gas and diesel on that weight, not on peak numbers.
  • Get pre-approved so a 2026 deal or a 2027 order can move quickly.
  • Ask about current offers on the 2026, which change month to month.

Silverado HD questions

When will the 2027 Silverado HD be available in Oklahoma City?

Chevrolet says the 2027 Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD will be available in late 2026, with ordering expected to open later this year. It hasn't published a date for dealer deliveries, so ask our sales team for the latest on when the first trucks reach Oklahoma City.

How much can the 2027 Silverado HD tow?

Chevrolet rates the 2027 Silverado HD at up to 38,000 lb of max available towing with the Duramax 8.3L diesel, up from 36,000 lb on the 2026. The enhanced 6.6L gas V8 is rated at up to 19,000 lb, slightly below the 2026 gas engine's 19,080 lb. These ratings apply only to specific configurations.

What engines does the 2027 Silverado HD have?

Two: an all-new Duramax 8.3L Turbo-Diesel V8 rated at 555 hp and 1,230 lb-ft, built in Brookville, Ohio, and an enhanced 6.6L gas V8 rated at 412 hp and 472 lb-ft, built in Tonawanda, New York.

Is the 2027 Silverado HD a redesign?

Not on the outside. Chevrolet says the exterior may look familiar, while the changes are underneath: what Chevrolet calls two new engines (an all-new diesel and an enhanced gas V8), electric power steering, eBoost braking and updated trailering tech.

Should I buy a 2026 Silverado HD now or wait for the 2027?

Buy a 2026 if you need a truck working now and your trailers fit inside its ratings, which reach 36,000 lb with the Duramax 6.6L. Wait for the 2027 if you tow at the limit, want the extra diesel torque, or want electric power steering and eBoost brakes, and you can wait for Chevrolet to publish pricing.

What trims does the 2027 Silverado HD come in?

Six models: WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country. Trail Boss is now available on Custom for the first time.
