What is a double cab vs regular cab vs crew cab?
These days pickups are everywhere. The times when pickup trucks were built only for work are long gone. Modern trucks can be outfitted to be as opulent as the iconic brands in luxury. So, it doesn’t matter if you need a workhorse or want the lap of luxury, there is a truck out there for you. A regular cab pickup has just one row of seating with a small amount of storage space and legroom, as you might guess. A regular cab truck used to be the single way to buy trucks. In many regular cabs, the seatbacks almost touch the back side of the cab. This model is the more practical version of a pickup and usually comes with manual locks and windows. A regular cab is a work truck, not to haul friends and family.
As you could probably guess, an Extended Cab pickup truck (can also be called a Double Cab pickup) is basically just a Regular Cab with more room behind the front seating. When it was first introduced, extended cab pickup trucks were just sold as 2-doors and had small jump seats in the back. Sometimes known as a Double Cab truck, these trucks now boast slim, second-row doors for easy access to the rear cargo area. Despite having 2 rows of seats, an Extended Cab pickup would not be the ideal option for long trips, even if it can carry more people.
While maybe not as clear as the previous models, a Crew Cab pickup features four normal-size doors and room to transport your whole ‘crew.’ Crew Cab trucks are designed to carry more of your stuff and people. In some circles, these pickup trucks have become the family vehicle. A Crew Cab truck’s bigger size and powerful engines are unavailable in the sedan segment while still being able to provide the comfort and legroom that families desire.
